The rise and fall of knowledge

1 06 2011

We are under attack, we are always under attack, we are always in danger of losing our freedom, our knowledge, and our future.

Wisdom and knowledge have been accumulated and destroyed before. Dogma and religion are the worst enemies of humankind. They have set us back by millennia. Humanity has risen to great heights several times, and Dogma and religion have tumbled us back into ignorance and darkness several times.
This is a lesson we should never forget. Our current height of learning and technology are not safe. Right now religious factions are trying to take science out of school classes and replace it with religion and the bible, and it’s flawed primitive nonscience. The creationists in America (and they are gaining in Europe) attack science on a daily basis. In Islamic schools, also in the west, children are being drilled into ignoring reality and only believing the flawed archaic nonscience of the Quran.

Watch this chilling video of the destruction of one of the wonders of the ancient world: the Library of Alexandria.

This happened long ago, but it can happen anytime today.

To leak or not to leak…

30 11 2010

The website Wikileaks is dedicated to bring news and information to the public. News and information about the war in Afghanistan and Irak.
According to Wikileaks,

Publishing improves transparency, and this transparency creates a better society for all people. Better scrutiny leads to reduced corruption and stronger democracies in all society’s institutions, including government, corporations and other organisations. A healthy, vibrant and inquisitive journalistic media plays a vital role in achieving these goals. We are part of that media.

Here is a video talking about Wikileaks and interviewing a Vietnam war veteran who was accused of publicizing offcial secrets about that war. Interesting.
It would be wrong to endanger people by leaking information, but according to the US-government their earlier disclosure of Afganistan leaks was not endagering anything.
And aren’t we in these wars as a result of faulty information? (As well as bad decision making)
If you really think you are playing at a ”clean war”, then what is there to be embarrassed about? And if it’s dirty secrets, shouldn’t we know about it?
To leak or not to leak?

For some background; I really like this interview with Julian Assange, the founder and ”lightning rod” of Wikileaks. He walks out of an interview because apparently the interview was supposed to be about the deaths of people, and she keeps harping about his personal life instead. He was there to talk about the information about the deaths of 190.00 people and he considered it completely out of line to talk about him personally. So he walked out.
More people should do this!

An interview wilt Al Jazeera, about the current Irak War information on Wikileaks.

Ok, I am adding one more video, because The Young Turks, (recommended channel) made a very good report on Julian walking out of an interview, and the Larry King interview.

The whining Baby

18 06 2010

I was discussing stuff and I suddenly got a new insight I want to share.
I have always thought that monotheism is an evolutionary step after polytheism (and before people evolve further to atheism): Humans through the aeons develop their notion of a ”Divine Something” in steps. But I had a new insight which I now need to write down.
In a pantheon of Gods there is a division of jobs, every God has his/her own job. In monotheism one God does it all.
In a Pantheon there is also some sort of punishment for those who do evil deeds, and in the Ancient Egyptian underworld you get eaten by a monster Ammut, ànd thrown into a lake of fire. (This btw is where the Christians and later Mohammed got their inspiration of their invention of Hell.)
So far so good.
But a monotheistic God, (Egypt was there first as well, with the Aton) has more fish (or sinners) to fry. While the emphasis in polytheist punishment is in response to the evil deeds you’ve done, the monotheistic Gods have invented a lot of additional reasons to fry the ”sinners”:

If you do not worship Me you will burn in a lake of fire!
If you change your mind about My Religion you will burn in a lake of fire!
If you have sex with somebody I don’t like you to have sex with you will burn in a lake of fire!
If you do not follow all My little rules you will burn in a lake of fire!
If you do not kill all people who do not believe in Me you will burn in a lake of fire!

The monotheistic God seems to have an irrational obsession with Women. And an even greater maniacal fixation with Women and Sex!

If you are a woman and wear make-up you will burn in a lake of fire!
If you are a woman and you do not hide your God-given hair beneath a piece of fabric you will burn in hell!
If you are a woman and you don’t cover your face with a piece of fabric you will burn in a lake of fire!
If you are a woman and you talk to men you will burn in a lake of fire!
If you are a woman and you do not obey your lord and master (any man who has ownership) you will burn in hell!
If you are a woman and you do not let your husband have sex with you whenever he likes you will burn in a lake of fire!
If you are a woman and you get raped by a man you will burn in a lake of fire!
If you made the mistake of being born a woman you will burn in a lake of fire!

A monotheistic God is no improvement at all!
The more punishments God makes up and meets out the more He seems to  be like a whining, spoilt, selfish baby.
Can an omnipotent God really be acting like a whining spoilt baby who needs to create a whole universe because He needs to be worshipped? Can an omnipotent God really be that selfish? Wouldn’t such an entity be in balance with Himself without having to create a species who worships him all day? And why create beings who are not programmed to do so by default? Is God a crappy programmer? Can an omnipotent God really be suffering from a pathological fixation on sex and What Women Wear? Can an eternal omnipotent God have a sexual gender like the animals He created?
I don’t think so.

All this is all the proof I need to know that organised religions are invented. They are constructed, and given the emphasis on controlling and punishing those pesky women, I’d say it’s also pretty clear which gender has had the most to do with making it up and inventing ”the rules”.

The invention of Hell

27 04 2010

Hell is a fairly recent invention. Hell, as we know it, pops up with Christianity, and as it was such a good bit of propaganda and blackmail, it was taken up by Islam when Mohammed learned of it.

Now hell as we know it is plagiarised inspired by the ancient Egyptians’ idea of the things which would happen to bad people after death.

Blackened bodies burning in fire

Let’s not forget we are talking ”religion” here. religion is a form of creed. Religion is a construct by humans to keep control over other people. And religions like to use a kind of emotional blackmail to scare people into adhering to the creed.
One way is the invention of hell.

So after inventing ”Hell” religious people now tell you that you have to believe or else…
And you have to obey or else…
And you have to follow a lot of rules, or else….
And you have to listen to the priests, scholars, or else….

And Christianity had another brilliant idea: Let’s tell people they are already doomed, so everybody should become a Christian asap,
or else…
Now to lure people in and to get them to worship Jesus they also tell you that although you are an awful disgusting sinful person, there’s this bloke Jesus, who was tortured, and died on the cross to wash you clean of all the sins you were born with even if you had not actually done anything. And now you have to worship him as well.

Or else….

So nice you’d think.

But noooo, because that would be giving some really good cards away wouldn’t it? So even though Jesus died for our sins and cleansed us of evil, we are still bad people and we have to believe and worship Jesus!
or else…
And you have to obey or else…
And you have to follow a lot of rules, or else….
And you have to listen to the priests, scholars, or else….

So this is the reason for inventing hell.

The Stockyards

25 03 2010

The Q and I went for a bit of tourism: we went to the Fort Worth Stockyards and had a great time! It is very touristy, but not too slick. There are some amusing shops, and some gorgious but rundown buildings!

Of course the Stockyards are all about cows. This is the touristy bit.

Now this works for me! What a beautiful building! Unfortunately it’s just a shell. I wish I could have photographed it without the car!
Whished I could have made a better photo alltogeter actually…

A bit more tourism. This building, with lots of different small shops, reminded me so much of Camden Town in London! The corridors were wholly covered in these lovely murals.

A bloke collected money with his menagerie!
Successfully of course; they were too cute!

Then there were a lot of shops selling ”cowboy furniture” and bric-à-brac.

I loved the ”Cross eyed moose” But not all shops were open, so I haven’t seen all.

This shop was full of great crazy stuff! Stuffed animals, boots, cutlery, number plates, saddles, books, furniture, fish…

The list goes on. Anything you can imagine!

I was allowed to make as many photos as I wanted!

It was as good as a museum 😀

.

.

.

.

.

.

Look at all those boots! They are works of art and quite expensive, even if heavily worn.

There were a number of beautiful vintage saddles.

And lots of stuffed animals

Fish…. Lots of fish….

Beautiful vintage cinema, also empty and unused.

This is one of these things which makes me worried about the Americans…

I mean: house number 2408 1/2????

Anybody wants to try a Harry Potter here?

The Q treated me on a great dinner at the H3-ranch.

Just some reminders of what you are eating in Texas

This must have been the best steak I have ever eaten! It was a cold day and we sat near the roasting fire, 😉  As always in Texas the staff were very nice as well!

As we came out we saw this cool dude on a longhorn! I had been telling Q I wanted to see real longhorns!

But it gets even better!

And better and better!

What do you think? Should I swap the Tarq for a Longhorn?

And one last brilliant view at some of the buildings

Our world has been invented by Tesla

1 12 2009

Have you ever heard of Nikola Tesla?
You should have.

Nikola Tesla has invented the technologies on which our modern world is built. Scientists are still discovering what Tesla has predicted, are still studying his theories and research. His work is still, in many ways, future technology.

Nikola Tesla had an amazing mind, he was a scientist, an engineer, an inventor, a mystic and poet. His mind was too great to be fully appreciated by the people of his time. During his lifetime he patented more than 700 inventions. A list, by no means complete, of the inventions which still power our world today.

1. Tesla Coil & auto ignition system
2. AC induction engine (no carbon brushes)
3. Solar powered engines
4. Transmitting Power without Wires (called WiTriciity in 2007)
5. Seeing by Telephone and wirelessly (TV & Radio)
6. A Means of Employing Electricity as a Fertiliser
7. Fluorescent Lighting & neon lights.
8. Specialized lighting and a precursor to the X-ray machine
9. Vertical Take Off and Landing (VTOL) aircraft
10. Terrestrial Stationary Waves
11. Robotics
12. Meters
13. Valvular Conduit
14. Earthquake Machine
15. Magnifying transmitter
16. Laser
17. Death Rays
18. Thermo-Electric Power
19. X-Ray machine
20. Radar
21. Electrotherapeutics and Biotronics
22. Computing Logic Circuits/Remote Control/Communications
23. Bladeless Turbine
24. Solar Tower

Tesla coil from above

Tesla is also the inventor of the Tesla-Coil, without this device none of our electrical apparatuses would function. And yes, dear readers, that includes our laptops!

So you might still think that it was Marconi who invented the principals of radio-transmission, but in fact Tesla had the first patent. The American patent office later gave the patent to Marconi and Tesla spend many years fighting this decision.
In December 1901. Marconi established wireless communication  between Britain and Newfoundland, Canada, earning him the Nobel prize in 1909. But much of Marconi s work was not original. Many theories and parts to build a radio were inventions by other people. The heart of radio transmission is based upon four tuned circuits for transmitting and receiving. It is Tesla’s original concept, demonstrated in his famous lecture at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia in 1893. The four circuits, used in two pairs, atre still a fundamental part of all radio and television equipment.
In 1943, six months after Tesla’s death, the United States Supreme Court recognized Tesla’s more significant contribution as the inventor of radio technology.

Tesla’s letterhead, showing the the antenna of  Tesla’s “World’s radio station” which he constructed in Long Island in the vicinity of New York. It testifies his farsightedness and ingenuity. His idea was that this station, build in 1900 should by remote wireless control transmit throughout the world not only the news but music and photographs as well. However, that great plan could not be carried out because when it was realized free unmetered energy would also be made available (the tower would also send out free electricity) to everyone Tesla’s funding was terminated and his tower was destroyed.

Yes friends, think about that. This project was destroyed because everybody would get free energy, and Tesla’s partner JP Morgan wanted money. Metered energy for which you could charge people.

And Tesla never got a Nobel prize.
He should have gotten about ten at least.

Tesla dreamed of free power for everybody, he believed that electrical power could be drawn freely from the potential electricity in the area above the magnetosphere. Actually Nasa has now done this using Tesla’s research.

Our AC electrical power is the result of Tesla winning a huge fight with Edison, who wanted electrical power being delivered by DC. Now DC has a much lower voltage and cannot be send over large distances, (more than 2 miles) like AC can. If Edison had won we would need a power station every two miles, so really the use of Electricity would never have become widespread.

At Niagara Falls, Tesla was the first to successfully harness the mechanical energy of flowing water. Change it to electrical energy, and distribute it to distant homes and industries. His revolutionary model set the standard for hydroelectric power as we know it to day. Since his childhood, Tesla had dreamed of harnessing the power of the great natural wonder. And in late 1893, his dream became a reality, when Westinghouse was awarded the contract to create the powerhouse. It was the most likely power source for Tesla’s wireless powered car….

Think about that…

Tesla was working on X-ray photography at the same time Röntgen was. He send his photographs to Röntgen.

A few great photo’s of Tesla coils generating high voltage.

I’ve written this post because my old buddies from my student years have re-instated our internet group, the ”Tesla-Net”.  And I thought it was high time I payed my own tribute to this great man, the architect of our time.

Baghdad burning

2 11 2009

I want to share this video’s with you. Heartrending story of a woman ”Riverbend” in Bagdad, and heartrending but beautiful artwork by Danijel Zezelj. It’s narrated in German, beautifully by Sherin Zayed, but with English subtitles.
