Ever been camel riding? I found it really different from horses – much longer gait and much slower and rockier – was fun 🙂
We have camels in southern Iran along the Persian gulf and i saw how they eject saliva from the mouth!!
I prefer to stay away from them. 😀

Outstanding Quiz…and since I love camels, let me tell you a little camel trivia (and yes, I’ve got lots of posts about camels on my blog!)
The first camels to come to Australia were from Afghanistan and were the two humped camels.
I’m not sure about the speed of the camels. Having seen the camel races I am convinced they can go faster than 20 mph (now you know a question I missed on the quiz)
I have ridden camels in China, Egypt, India, Pakistan, Dubai and been on desert treks atop the camel while in both India and Pakistan. They are such unique experiences and soon you begin to enjoy the rolling gait. The two humped camel which I rode in China however is much more easier to ride than the one humped.
I guess because I tend to look at the camel as a pet (I actually received a baby as a gift in Pakistan) I cannot fathom the thought of actually eating one.
Camels are such smart and intelligent creatures!

I went to the camel races just outside of Riyadh a year or so ago and those animals move pretty fast – I also thought they could go faster than 20mph!
Have only ridden a camel once – that was also a two humped camel in Kazakhstan. Very bumpy ride!

Bedu: thank you for the camel trivia. The maximum speed was mentioned on an internet-site about camels. You have led such an adveturous life! (and still do) I have always liked the bactrian camels better than the dromedaries.
If you can get it, I would reccomend everybody to watch the beautiful movie ”The Story of the Weeping Camel”

I can’t pick between bactrian / dromedaries! They’re all adorable, frankly 😉 I used to be able to say easily that horses were my favourite animals but nowadays I actually think they’re all pretty equal – I just have more familiarity with horses or dogs or cats than with, say, lemurs 😉
I didn’t do well, only 700, but that’s expected, maybe because I spent more time cooking and eating camels than admiring them! Bedu’s remark reminds me of the time I was visiting relatives in Italy, and saw signs for horsemeat at the grocery store. I expressed surprise that people would eat horses.
Guess what I found on my plate at dinner?
By the way, camels and horses both taste like beef, at least to my simple taste buds. Preparation is everything.

Marahm, apparently horsemeat is good for those with anaemia (not sure we should be discussing eating horse on Aafke’s blog! 😯 ).

Camels really store it in their blood. They have unique bloodcells; They can withstand enormous differences in osmosis, and are uniquely shaped, not round but an oval. this fascillitates bloodflow when the animal is in a dehydrated state.
