I am not happy.
While on the whole I enjoy a healthy stats-count, over the last week they have been going through the roof. The only times I had really high stats it was understandable: Suroor or Shahrzad had linked me, and they have intelligent informative blogs with normally high visitor counts.
I do not.
I have a completely aimless blog which only exists for me to amuse myself and my friends, rant, and laugh my problems away. I had a nice group of decent visitors checking out my blog regularly, and posting amusing, intelligent and nice comments. And now I have more than 200 clicks, almost all blurkers who don’t show themselves and comment.
Why?
Because I have been using the word ”nerd” quite a lot lately?
I’m keeping quiet for a while until the blurkers come out or the stats go down.
I imagine it’s all the cardigan corgi people from the states! I found you through Checkers and you commented on my blog and they found you there. And now they all had to come visit you. Really, it’s gotta be how it happened!
I accept full responsibility! 40 lashes with a corgi tail!
Now, more blogs about the lovely 4 legged, full of himself, pony you have!
Tell me about it! I get … that is, Dennis gets 200-300 hits a day, but each post only gets about seven or eight comments. Oh well, at least I seem … ummm, Dennis seems to be entertaining people! š
Well, how interesting! Today I found that my blog attracted more than 100 hits, after having been down, down, down for several weeks. Individual posts seem to get 3 or 4 hits apiece, but the whole lot falls way short of 100! Also, no one has commented since before that 100 was registered.
So what gives? I don’t get it.
I hasten to add that I don’t mind seeing an upward spike in my stats. After all, I want to share my posts and my photos with anyone who has the time and interest to look, and I love making new friends in parts of the world I barely knew existed. That’s why it’s a blog and not an off-line personal journal.
Comments are wonderful, of course, but I understand that there are many worthy blogs. One could make a full-time job of reading and commenting on blogs. Oh, joy!
I guess I don’t understand why “blurking” is objectionable. Is there any danger there?
OK, just getting a bit paranoia here, my blog is public, but not on the searchengines or anything, it is sort of private for those people I pester with comments on their own blog, and the occasional random visitor, I just was amazed at the sudden incrase.
Oh Aafke…if I were to complain about my stats as compared to the comments, it would be never ending…. Yes, I also get many many blurkers but that’s okay… I believe they will “come out” when they are good and ready!
Congrats on the increased popularity of your blog…not that any of we regulars are surprised! (smile)
Yeah I was only being paranoia I suppose: when my blogstats are low I am sorry, when they hit the roof I get paranoia!
Often those hits are search engine “spiders” and not people at all – they inflate hit counts on my blog, too.
Congrats on stat. Still the word “Nerd” is not that bad. Anyway, since you’re not on search engine, it’s just people who come here through others blogs or your intelligent comments here and there.
They’re just curious to know who is behind those comments. š
For example i had more than 2000 stats just for one of my post “Iranian women in olympics”. But it got just 34 comments!
If you want to know country of the blurkers, you can sibmit here http://www.sitemeter.com
Put the codes in your blog and investigate the blurkers. š
Oh Aafke, LLLOOOLLL! I normally get 900 – 1100 hits a day, maybe 2 comments on a bad day, maybe 18+ on a good day – many people hit and run, they are looking for something and give my blog a glance and head elsewhere. Use the word “porn” anywhere and you have instant anomalous spike – like “Kuwait censors porno sites” even if it is a very dry article, that word attracts hits.
I use StatCounter, you can see where your visitors are coming from and how long they stay and what they look at.
I didn’t know what a blurker was until I looked it up; I guess I qualify although I’ve written my own blog(s) off and on since 2002 so I’m a blog writer as well as a reader. But I do have a fairly long list of blogs I read daily that I don’t always comment on just because I have a full time job and a family and although I’m a fast typist, I ain’t THAT fast! lol
I added you and a few other women to my “dailies” from a Google search on Muslim women in the Olympics. I’m always on the lookout for smart, interesting women writers. And I took your SciFi test and the Nerd one because…well, I like SciFi and my husband and I are rather nerdy.
I’m harmless! Really! š So are probably all your other “Blurkers”. š
I know firsthand how weird it can be to suddenly get a lot of traffic because it has happened to me in the past, too, and I have been equally paranoid but honestly, it’s just people out here after all. š
I had to look up the term, “Blurker”, too. And aparently I’m a solid nerd…but I wouldn’t worry about it. I’m sure something you either said or someone was linking your page from their site. But I’m sure your hit count will go down.
Btw, I think this is the first time I’ve heard of someone complaining about TOO MANY hits! *laugh*
Ok guys I get it now! I’m being needlessly paranoid here!!!
Anyway, I’m really dissappointed: only 90 hits today!
shahrzad, 2000 hits????????? Eeeeeeehk! Ok clear: I am paranoid!
Thanks for the link: i’m trying to make it work now!
Intlxpatr: interesting… I’m going to try that one out… watch out for a post using the word ”porn” in the titel!
Annie! Haaai, welcome to my blog! Or should I say: to your first comment!
Every now and then a blurker will come out!!! And what an excellent comment!
I particularly like: ” Iām always on the lookout for smart, interesting women writers. ”
Nevis, nice, first you comfort me, then you explain it is something I said! Brrrr.
all: thank you all for the comforting comments! I love you all! š
hey there! Sorry, i have been a recent blurker on your blog too. I suppose just because I have come across lots of new interesting blogs lately which I keep reading but not commenting on. It’s hard to get started! ‘specially when I am not really a blogger myself. Good to read your blog! Keep up the good work,
You are rekindling an old passion I had for horseriding as well š
You’ll just have to face the fact that people LOVE YOU!!! It’s a good thing! *HUGS*
(And I’m tempted to try the ‘porn’ thing, too! LOL!)
Aafke, you’re welcome. Besides…haven’t we got it worked out that I’m a megolamanic?
I’m bored, let’s get to ME!
What is that picture?? Is that what a blurker looks like? I would be worried too if I had attracted the attention of 200 of those….
Mairead, welcome to my blog! Always nice to see a reformed blurker! š
Lofter, Hug back!
Nevis, so modest!
MJK: That is a Ā“LurkerĀ“ from World of Warcraft! Yeah, they scare me!!!!
Aafke, where did you get that picture. The last time I shape shifted into that form was in 1920. All pictures should have been in black and white. I think the pic is a fake!!
Oh and I forgot… Porn, porn porn…
Just my little contribution to the blog popularity. You should get a few more clicks from Google now…
Let me know if you get the search phrase for “Shape shifter porn pics” š
Saudi in US, I’m not on the search-engines! But sometimes something does get through… So you never know!
It’s probably my fault. Or it’s just the fact you are so wonderful, everyone wants to see what you are about!
You are on the search engines, though – Google “Clouddragon” and you’re the second highest response š
damn!
I blurked on your blog two days ago :} Actually was reading from a PDA but didn’t have the energy to type a comment with the darn stick. But I didn’t view your blog 200 times, swear!
Love you!
Achelois: you are nĆ©ver a blurker, you are a beloved visitor, and one doesn’t have to comment on Ć©very post I place.
Or you could say: ”Mash’allah, good points raised!”
