Oh, Aafke, I am so sorry! I am so very sorry; I know how much you loved that horse. How? When? Why? The poem is beautiful. I will remember it as I grieve for my father, and I will pray for you as you grieve for your dear companion, Rabhar.

I must say again how sorry I am to see this post. I resd through your blog and looked at the pictures of lovely Rabhar, and I can hardly believe that such a magnificent equine spirit has left this world. Your blog is part of my life now; I’ve drawn inspiration from it, and I’ve so admired (and envied!)your relationship with your horses.

I wish I could do something to help you bear this loss, but all I can do is give you my heart through these words.

Aafke, I am so very sorry for your loss. In the last 6 months I have dealt with the death of my Mother and my 14 year old minature Schnauzer, so I know some of what you may be feeling. Know that many are with you in thought and prayer.

My dear friends, thank you all very much for your kind words, thoughts and prayers.
I’m very sad because I have to miss Rabhar, but it is only out of selfishness: For Rabhar it was good to go.

I couldn’t write, and not at all about Rabhar. But I feel an itching now. Perhaps there are going to be a few more posts on my desert prince.

Thank you Suroor for your beautiful poem, and Shahrzad for wanting to be Rabhar if you had to be an animal. Thank you Bedu for all your mails. And Lofter for the ping-back.

Rabhar’s tendons in his hindlegs had completely given away, and he was in pain, and deteriorating every week. I think he was also so thin because he was in so much pain. He had more difficulty walking, but still loved showing off.

His death was very serene and peaceful. He suffered no pain or fear. I am very grateful for this.

Thank you Irving, and for posting the poem just at the moment I had realised I had to let Rabhar go. You can’t imagine how it helped me look at it with good feelings.
And I have no doubt he is exactely where you described. There was never a spark of evil in his heart. only purity and goodness.

I grew up with horses and understand their often profoundly good nature. Yet it is a very special person who embraces a horse such as Rabhar, with all that he had been through and all that he faced. What a gift of love you were to him, and he of course to you. Thank you for sharing Love for Love’s sake, with us.
